If the previous day was good, this one was better! Some 30 flat kms in the early morning kept on taking us through some nice towns. There’s a town every 5 or 10 kms max, and that means there’s water as well. Good to have in mind.
After km 30 the road starts to go down faster, just like the river. That means the valley gets narrower and much more spectacular. I can honestly say this has been one of the highlights of the whole trip. Enjoy!!
Seeing Afganistan is another great attraction. The road on the other side of the river is just spectacular in many ways. People will wave you, both on foot or on donkeys, you’ll see the different between men’s and women’s jobs and, when it gets dark, you’ll see no light. In a way, you could say you’ve been to northern Afganistan by riding this road (but I still missed being able to mountain bike the Afgan road!!).
There’s a great place to stop for food at km 46ish. Lots of water coming down the mountain makes it fresh which, in a hot place like this one, that means saying a lot! You’ll notice how the whole place gets hotter at every meter you descend… and it didn’t stop this day!
This great part of the road continues to Vanj. So it’s not a bad idea to take this road easy and do not ride too fast!!
